US Sanctions 8 Indian Companies, 5 Indian Nationals in Latest Action Against Iran’s Energy Trade

As part of its most recent crackdown under the “maximum pressure campaign,” the United States sanctioned eight Indian companies and five Indian citizens on Wednesday, July 30, for allegedly aiding Iran in its oil and petrochemical activities.

According to The Indian Express, the action targets organisations connected to Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, son of Ali Shamkhani, advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader, and his international shipping network.

Eight Indian-based businesses and five Indian nationals have been sanctioned by the United States as part of its most recent sanctions action against Iran. The sanctions target companies that trade Iranian oil, petroleum products, and petrochemicals, as well as those that are linked to a shipping empire run by Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, the son of Ali Shamkhani, a senior political advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran.

The US Department of State designated 10 vessels as prohibited property and placed sanctions on 20 entities in the most recent action, which was made public on Wednesday. At the same time, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury discovered over 50 boats affiliated with Hossein Shamkhani’s network and designated over 50 individuals and businesses.
